Exploratory Class Notes: There are a few activities next week where the instructors have asked us to pass on a note to the students. Please read through the following and check with your student if any of these apply to them. (We have also sent this information out as an email to each MS student.) Soccer Training: Please bring a soccer ball, tennis shoes, & PE clothes. Lowell Farm and Wildlife: Please bring old boots, warm coat, hat, & work gloves as we will be outside part of the time. Baking 101: Please bring the following items to school if possible: hand mixer, set of mixing bowls or 1 large one, spatula, measuring cups, and measuring spoons (these items will be left at school for the week and stored in the kitchen) Fitness/Yoga: Students should wear comfortable/PE type clothes. Boxing Fitness: Please bring dry shoes (to change into at the gym) and PE/workout clothing. Martial Arts & Self-Defense: Please bring comfortable/PE type clothing for moving around. Scrapbooking: Students need to bring photos, a scrapbook, and any paper/stickers they may want to use. If you have any other supplies that we could borrow, please label them and we will return them to you! Also, we are accepting donations of paper/stickers, etc. that you may no longer use (if you are now doing digital photo books.) Thanks. Winter Adventure Club: The weather for our outdoor activities will be great because there is lots of snow but it will also be extremely cold. Each day please wear snow pants, gloves, hats, and warm winter coats. Monday = Cross Country Skiing, Tuesday = Snowshoeing (wear snow boots, the snowshoes fit over them), Wednesday = Ice-skating, and Thursday = Cannonsburg skiing/snowboarding. Help Needed Announcements: USB Webcams needed: For the Stop Motion Films exploratory, Mr. Kiser is looking for USB webcams to use with students. If you have one you are willing to share for the week, please send it with your student or contact Nate Kiser. Old CD's Wanted: Have old CD's you really could do without? Mr. Kiser could use them as wheels when making Mousetrap cars. Send them in with your student or contact Nate Kiser.
Classroom Notes: Sixth Grade: It was a great week of hands on Math and Science learning this past week in 6th Grade. Art: After exploratory 6a has a pencil drawn Picasso portrait due. 6b will learn about Picasso and then the following week have their pencil drawn Picasso portrait due. Check moodle for due dates and an upcoming quiz date. Band: After exploratory we will continue learning scales. Practice records come due the end of January - we have loads to work on from sheet music and books as well. Bible: If you have not checked your email or completed your Bible memory (Philippians 2:1-11, 14-15) please do that as soon as possible. Check your email for further instructions. History: Mesopotamia project #2 to be turned in Monday before the end of the day. Project # 3 completed by Friday February 7. Language arts: Students did so well on the big test on short stories! You can be so proud of them. After exploratory week, we will begin reading a few stories from other cultures and looking at the research process. Please look for parent letter explaining World Fair and country choice sheet that will be coming home. Math: When we return from Exploratory Week, our focus in math will take a turn to expressions and equations.
Seventh Grade: Art: After exploratory 7th graders will continue to work on bird drawings and painting in their still-lives. We will be reviewing color theory with the still-life paintings. Please check moodle for homework and due dates. Band: After exploratory we will continue learning scales. Practice records come due the end of January - we have loads to work on from sheet music and books as well. Bible: 7VN Bible: All Daniel work comes due after exploratory. There are questions for Daniel 1-6, 7-12 and also a Daniel project. Go team! Sanderson: We're working on projects that chronicle our Spiritual Journey. These projects will be due on Thursday following Exploratories. Students will have time in class on Tuesday and limited time on Wednesday to work on them Wanner: After exploratory we will review for and take a test on first and second Samuel. Please be aware there will be a review sheet. Also, there will be a take home essay due on the day of the test. Tentatively plan on the test happening Friday 6. Pre-Algebra (Kiser): We are solving multi-step equation which should not (dare I say can not) be completed mentally. Students are now REQUIRED to show their work on each problem.
Eighth Grade: Yearbook and Baby Pictures -It is best if the picture is vertical -It looks great if it is just a head and shoulders shot -Make sure the resolution of the photo is at 300 dpi or higher. Art: After exploratory we will be working on creating our ceramic slab pots. Band: After exploratory we will continue learning scales. We have loads to work on from sheet music and books as well. Many great songs are being learned! Hooray! Geometry: We are working on area, perimeter, the Pythagorean Theorem, radicals, and special right triangles. History: Chapter 8, 9, and 10 Test has been moved to Tuesday February 4. If you are going to be gone due to a an extra long vacation, contact Mrs. DeWeerd so you can take it after school next week. |
