8th Grade Graduation: Tuesday, June 2, 7pm at Thornapple Evangelical Church
HELP NEEDED at 8th GRADE GRADUATION: Six to eight parents (not parents of 8th graders!) are needed to help on Tuesday, June 3, at Thornapple Evangelical Church from approximately 7:45pm-9:30pm to set up, serve and clean up for the graduation reception. Free cake! Please contact Deb Klaver (deb.klaver@me.com) if you are interested.
ACS Babies: We are collecting $2 for the two middle school babies - - Mr. Kiser's little girl born about 3 weeks ago, and Mrs. Van Duyn's baby who is expected at the end of summer. Can you send $2 in toward a baby gift for two more ACS babies?
Laptop Turn-In: As we are fast approaching the end of the school year, we have some details to share with you and your student about school laptops. Please take time to read through the appropriate links below, which were also sent home as paper copies with your child.

5th Grade News |
Welcome 5th grade parents to Middle School Matters. MSM is sent out once each week to help keep you informed with is happening in Middle School.
Here is a highlight from 5th grade Camp: What an amazing group of 5th graders and parents! The amount of energy, encouragement, work, enthusiasm, and love was outstanding. Some highlights include: playing capture the flag, Hillbillies vs. Mountain Men (Hillbillies won!!), swamp walks, Mr. Hoo's campfire stories, and of course catching the infamous Limerick Phantom. Our time at camp went fast but was packed full of memories. We look forward to finishing the year strong in 5th grade as we bring our great enthusiasm and adventuresome spirits back to Ada.
Spanish: 5V earned a FIESTA for Friday, the 30th! Great job, 5V!
We will finish our year with a "pop" quiz on locations and the Spanish forms of I go, you go, and he/she goes (voy, vas, va): 5V QUIZ on Wednesday; 5H QUIZ on Thursday; 5B QUIZ on Friday. They have a study sheet in their Spanish binders.

6th Grade News |
Track Meet: This past Saturday many of our 5th and 6th grade students had their last track meet for this year. ACS "swept" both boys and girls high jump.
Art: Please ask your student for their artwork it is coming home this week. 6ki has to be completed with the painting of their ceramic chicken by the end of their next class and 6d has to be completed painting by June 3.
Band: We would like to have a party on Thursday, May 29. Can you send a treat? We love food....what a GREAT YEAR in band - - soooooo good!! I am very thankful for all their fine work. They are a musical blessing. Instruments should go home on May 27 for the summer.
Bible: Bible Test on the Exodus Packet on Thursday. Review sheet went home this week Friday. Classtime next week reviewing for test. Final Bible Memory on Friday.
History: Finishing Middle Ages this week, and ending with an open notes quiz on Friday.
Language arts: Students did fairly well on their quizzes last week. Please take a moment to check out your child's quiz grade on Power School. We will finish up The Wednesday Wars and the Amazing Read Project this coming week (due Friday, May 30). Students will bring home their World Fair display boards and portfolios next week Friday as well. Inside the portfolio, your child will have a certificate of completion and a picture from the World Fair night! Wow! They have learned so much this school year and have grown in so many ways!
Math: We are taking time to review concepts and remind ourselves of some important skills from our year. (Working with Ratios, Fractions, Area, Perimeter, Expressions and Equations, Statistics, etc.) Also, math placement letters for 7th grade were mailed out on Wednesday this week. I have been talking with students and parents about those placements, please contact me if you have any questions or thoughts about your student's placement.
Science: Students are participating in several review activities that chronicle our excellent year of scientific learning. I've had so much fun experiencing Physical Science with this group of students!
Spanish: Next week we will write paragraphs in class about our families and pets, then peer edit and share in small groups. There will not be any homework, provided students use their time in class wisely.

7th Grade News |
7th/8th Algebra: Algebra exam May 29 and 30. Students have been given a study guide. All exam questions will come off from this study guide.
Art: Please ask your student for their artwork. They will be given grocery bag of it in their art class week that must go home. All 7th grade students have to be completed with the painting of their ceramic birds by the end of their last class next week - please check the homework calendar for exacted due dates.
Band: Instruments need to go home on Tuesday, May 27 and then stay there for their summer vacation. What a GREAT YEAR in band! I cannot wait to see what your 7th graders will be able to do next year in band!
Bible:
VN - our final prophets we are covering are Ezekiel, Elijah and Elisha. The prophet review test will be Friday, May 30. Our final memory work is Phil. 4:4-8 and this will be Tuesday, May 27. Almost done!
Sanderson: We're compiling a "Faith. Strong. Devotional" as a class this week. It's been an excellent trimester with these students!
Wanner:
As you can see we are giving our king puppet presentations in class there will be an open notes quiz at the end of the presentations. Also, the last Bible memory quiz happen on Tuesday over lamentations 3: 22 -26.
Pre-Algebra (Sanderson): Points, lines, planes, and angles round up the end of our study of Pre-Algebra. Students should check PowerSchool and make up any missing work they may have.
Pre-Algebra (Kiser): We have reviewed for a bit and now will focus on Volume and Surface Area of 3D shapes for the next week.
Science: Students should be working on rat keynote project. Final upload for Rat Keynote is Wednesday, May 28.
Spanish: 7th graders will continue practicing with higher numbers in various different scenarios, including math problems, numbers races, and "shopping."

Band: Our last day we play will be Thursday, May 29. Instruments need to go home that day. Thank you for your wonderful support for your band student. I will miss them very much!
Geometry: The Geometry exam will be given on Thursday, May 29, and Friday, May 30. It will be divided into a no-calculator and a calculator section and will contain the types of questions that we have worked on all year. Students will be working on an exam review packet of questions in order to prepare for the exam. Solutions to the review will be given in class and also on moodle.
History: Learning about World War II this week!
Science: We are ending our year with a study of the moon and its phases. The students' final test reflection is due May 29.
Is your student thinking about Spanish 2 next year? There are great benefits in doing so! Please let Mrs. Weaver know if interested in finding out about opportunities for further preparation to make the leap. In three years, it could mean taking an AP class in high school that will completely fulfill your student's college language requirement!
