MSM

For the Week of: 11.25.13 AND 12.2.13

To save a phone call disruption for you, please let the office know via email sdejong@adachristian.org if your child will be late or absent on a given day. When your child tells their teacher that they "will be gone/late tomorrow" that information does not always make it to the office. Thank you!

General Announcements:

Study Skills: Memory strategies is the topic this week.

All Middle School Students are in the Christmas Concert on Thursday, December 19 at ACS - 7:00 p.m.  Students should plan to wear white and black for our concerts.  It might be good to see if your black and white still fits. Many students have grown a great deal!  :)

Dessert Theatre:  Wow!  We have had so much fun watching and listening to auditions!  These kids are great!  There are a just a couple callbacks needed (we're hoping to do these Monday after school) and should have a final cast list ready by Tuesday night.  We know everyone is going to enjoy their part in the production, but this is always a bittersweet time for a class.  Some will be elated:  Some will need a little extra support from those around them.  The cast list will be posted under "THE CAST" at the website:  http://acsdesserttheatre.weebly.com/

Sixth Grade:

Art: We are working on drawing portraits.  We will be working on this for a while and hope to have 3 different portraits when we are complete with this project.  Please continue to check moodle for homework.

Bible:  We started a new memory verse this week (Philippians 2:1-3) due on Friday December 6 , and it will continue adding verses each week for the next month.  There is a complete schedule on Moodle with the version of the Bible we are using. (It matches the one in their school Bible, but not the NIV version on Bible Gateway)  We are also continuing our study of Creation and the first humans.  Bible Cube project on creation will be sent home on Monday.  We will begin to work on them in class after Thanksgiving.

History:  Working on an ocean current map that will be due after Thanksgiving.  They will have two class periods to work on it, after that it becomes homework due the Monday after Thanksgiving.  We will do some review of geography the week after Thanksgiving and then next Thursday (12/5) have an open notes geography test.

Orchestra:  We are working on songs for our concert at Raybrook Chapel and we just had our first combined practice with all string players in 6th, 7th, and 8th  this past Thursday!  WOW - a great sound and such awesome talent. We will sight-read a few new songs for playing along with singing at Raybrook.

Science: We've been studying atoms, elements, and the Periodic Table.  The 6th graders have been assigned to create a 3D model of an atom.  This project will need to be completed at home and brought to school on or before Friday, December 6.  Your 6th grader has an assignment sheet with details which we will address in class before Thanksgiving.  They will make a "blue print" at school before they begin creating their model at home.  Please encourage them to see me with any questions they may have.  I can't wait to see what they come up with!
